Exercise prescription for health ( EPH)

Regular physical activity is very effective in prevention and treatment of many diseases as well as for rehabilitation.Due to the underlying physiology, physical inactivity can be classified as Exercise Deficiency Syndrom (EDS). Indications for physical activity therefore range from sedentary behaviour to moderate or vigorous activity. Comparison of exercise versus drugs shows similar effectiveness or in most cases or even better effects than drugs. Physical activity acts like a drug with many indications, there is a dose - response relationship (non-linear), thus dosage can be individually adapted to the need of healthy or diseased persons, has man somatic as well as psychosomatic positive effects, has relative low side effects and rare contraindications.Taken together, adherence of physical activity given by prescription improves quality of life and longevity. To use the exercise prescription for health, every physician must have basic knowledge in exercise physiology and exercise testing, cardiorespiratory fitness and perceived exertion (Borg scale).

With this in mind, exercise can be prescribed individually or personalized considering age gender, fitness and disease. Training recommendations, more than 18, have been established for many diseases taking into account the rule of FITT. Exercise recommendation must be given with Frequency,Intensity, Time and Type of exercise and additional with progression in time, further strength and balance training.

This course then gives you information on how to to EDH in daily hospital and practice work.
