Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures are one of the most common injuries related to sports. The ACL is involved in approximately two thirds of all ligamentous injuries, which make up about 40 % of all knee traumas. There are known internal and external risk factors that can be reduced to avoid ACL injury. Beside that preventive properties of physical activity to numerous diseases and health-related risk factors are well documented.
Several injury prevention programs have been developed which contribute to a reduction of the risk of sustaining sports injuries in athletes. Programs which utilize neuromuscular and strength training at a young age show most promising results in reducing ACL injuries. Many different programs such the FIFA 11 program with different exercises have been developed. In this workshop you learn about the theoretical background and about the practical implementation of such programs.
