4. Summary of achievements 

Prof. Yung Shu-Hang Patrick, is now a world recognized prominent leader in the field of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, being the Chairman of several influential local & international organizations on Orthopaedics, Sport Medicine & Arthroscopy surgery. He is now the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, of the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK. He is also the Directors of different prominent health science centers in HK, such as the Hong Kong Centre of Sports Medicine and Sports Science, The Orthopaedic Learning Centre of CUHK, and also The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre. He is now also the President of The Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (HKCOS), as well the President of the Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM).

Prof. Yung is a keen researcher and educator, leading a team of researchers in CUHK and working for the advance in sport medicine & arthroscopy surgery. He has published over a hundred of scientific papers in international journals, contributing significantly to uphold the leading position of Hong Kong in Sports Medicine. He is also heading the first ever Master Course in Sports Medicine & Health Science in Hong Kong since 2005, trained thousands of medical personnel in the field of sports medicine. He has great commitment to community service and providing voluntary medical service for amateur and professional sport communities in Hong Kong, China & overseas. He is the Medical Consultant for the Hong Kong Sports Institute taking care the Elite athletes of Hong Kong Team since 2001. He also expanded his commitment in providing sports medicine education and clinical service to amateur sports lovers, & supporting local sports development by serving different Hong Kong sports teams to bring in quality sports medicine & science service and knowledge.

Prof. Patrick Yung is also an active member of the Elite Anti-doping & Medical Panel of Asian Football Federation (AFC). He has conducted Anti-Doping works in major local and international sports competitions over the past 15 years, and an active member of the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel of the Hong Kong Anti-Doping Committee, Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC). He has conducted hundreds of training courses to train different people, from amateur sports lovers to different medical professions, for management of sports injuries from emergency on field care to definitive treatment & rehabilitation.

Prof. Yung’s personal achievement and commitment in community services have brought Sport medicine & Arthroscopy surgery in Hong Kong & Asia to a new height shining in the world. In recognition of his international & local contributions in the advancement of Sports medicine & Health science, he has been awarded the ”Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Hong Kong” in 2009, the “FIMS Fellows” in 2011, the “Award of Secretary for Home Affairs’ Commendation Scheme” of the Government of HKSAR in 2015, the “Chinese Sports Medicine Magnolia Award” in 2017, the very prestigious “Takagi & Watanabe Award” of APKASS in 2018, and the “Justice of the Peace” by the Government of Hong Kong SAR in 2018.
