Matej Drobnič is assistant professor of orthopaedics at the Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine and orthopaedic surgeon at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of the Ljubljana University Medical Centre. He is sub-specialised in arthroscopic surgical procedures and knee, as well as foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. He dedicates a large portion of his time to treating sports injuries.
Over the past ten years, Matej Drobnič has pursued clinical research on treatment of articular cartilage injuries and diseases. An internationally acknowledged expert in regenerative orthopaedics, he has published numerous widely-heralded publications, delivered talks as an invited speaker and contributed to research projects.
He is an active member of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS) and European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA). He is member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) and has co-launched Slovenska revija za medicino in šport (Slovenian Magazine of Medicine and Sport). He is also head doctor of the football club NK Olimpija and member of the Medical Commission of the Football Association of Slovenia.
