Joanna Harper

Joanna Harper was the first person to publish data on the performance of transgender athletes with her 2015 paper analyzing the performance of eight transgender distance runners. Since the publication of this study, she has been involved with gathering further retrospective data and in 2017 she was a part of a team that began to collect prospective data on two transgender athletes as they underwent gender transition. Ms. Harper has also been an adviser to the International Olympic Committee on matters concerning transgender and intersex athletes. She was one of the authors of the 2016 IOC transgender guidelines.
